Tropa Magica on the SJZ Boombox Truck at The Big Game Block Party

https://sanjosejazz.org/events/tropa-magica-on-the-sjz-boombox-truck-at-the-big-game-block-party/

Celebrate football’s biggest week at the free Big Game Block Party hosted by Hapa’s Brewing Company at Creekside, with four live bands including East LA’s Tropa Magica, supported by DJ Too Tall.

Schedule:
12:30-2:30pm - 408 Collective
3-5pm - Conjunto Trujillo
5:30-6:30pm - Sweet Laurel Berry
7-8pm - Tropa Magica

Tropa Magica was formed by brothers David and Rene Pacheco in 2018.  Inspired by the songs and vibes of ‘90s East LA backyard quinceañeras, baptisms, family gatherings and punk shows. The band blends in the guitar and rhythms of ‘60s Peruvian Cumbias and ‘90s grunge with a neo-southern psychedelic twist that transports the listener into a tropical psychedelic dance party.

The Sweet Laurel Berry Band is a high-energy, nine-member rock-and-roll group rooted deep in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose. A true community ensemble where all members reside within just two city blocks of one another, they have become a local favorite for their eclectic mix of rock, blues, country and pop favorites, spanning everything from ‘60s classics to modern hits.

Led by 2025 Jazz Aid Fund awardee Ryan Trujillo, Conjunto Trujillo is a high-energy ensemble described as a “love letter to Latin dance and folkloric music.” Under Trujillo's direction, the group masterfully navigates a rich tapestry of Afro-Caribbean and Latin American styles, including Cuban son and rumba, Colombian cumbia and Dominican merengue.

The brainchild of powerhouse saxophonist Jared Carbajal, the (408) Collective has evolved from a 2020 pandemic-era project into a dynamic ensemble renowned for its high-energy interpretations of soul, funk and Y2K-era nostalgic hits.

The 2-day celebration along Barack Obama Blvd. includes a live podcast featuring Fitz & Whit, music, food trucks, live art, shopping, prizes, games, and more. Visit the Creekside establishments along Barack Obama for additional activities, discounts and freebies.
